What to Expect When Having an Ultrasound: Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images.
Ultrasound scanning is noninvasive (no needles or injections) and is usually painless.
Gel is applied to the skin to allow the sound waves to produce an image.
The gel will be removed when the examination is completed.
Exam times average 20 minutes.
